COMMUNITY PROGRAMME

CommunityFollowing a pilot project in 2003 and the success of numerous subsequent projects including Koanga at Sadler's Wells, Pegasus Opera aims to continue developing the Community Programme to produce an annual community opera. Auditions are held throughout the year to select participants, which are followed by weekly vocal / dramatic training workshops to prepare the participants for a full-length opera production. The finished opera will hopefully be performed at a London venue, providing the participants with all the components of a professional production to include lighting and set design, orchestra and costumes.

The project will be led by a team of opera professionals, enabling participants to receive high quality tuition and further their development both vocally and dramatically. There is the opportunity for the participants to take part in Pegasus Opera's professional touring productions, should they show outstanding promise. The Community Programme will therefore provide an important developmental stage, helping singers to progress into a professional sphere.

As part of this programme there is also the opportunity to develop skills in areas other than performance such as lighting design, costume design and stage management. Those interested can submit their c.v. to Pegasus Opera Company with a covering letter, specifying the area they would like work experience in. Participants will then have the opportunity to work alongside the relevant member of staff, to gain both experience and insight into their preferred role. This aspect of our programme is an excellent opportunity for anyone considering a career in theatre production and wanting to discover if it really is for them.
